About Gabrielle Czaja, MPT

Gabrielle Czaja, MPT, mATI is one of Washington DC's leading physical therapists. The founder of Washington Health & Healing, Inc, she has over 19 years of experience in the field. She is a highly trained expert who offers extraordinary care.

Gabrielle is also a certified teacher in the Alexander Technique, which helps restore the body's innate capacity for flexibility, power and expressiveness. As a former competitive athlete, her comprehensive, integrated and educational approach helps people of all ages with various injuries. Trained at The Alexander Foundation in Philadelphia and certified in 1996, she recently completed an advanced training program, The Carrington Way of Working, in New York City with renown Alexander teacher John Nicholls.

Starting at National Rehabilitation Hospital in 1990, Gabrielle helped people with chronic pain, polio, post polio syndrome, stroke and spinal cord injury. Experience at local hospitals and with home health care agencies provided insight to the full spectrum of experiences that an ill or injured person endures in the health care delivery system.

When she started her private practice in 1994 she committed to doing something different with the patient experience: She sees only one person at a time, in a calm, quiet and nurturing environment conducive to healing. Since starting Washington Health & Healing, her unique skills, incorporating current best physical therapy practices, Alexander Technique principles, yoga and developmental movement, have helped hundreds of people with pain and injuries.

Her own experiences with homeopathy, osteopathy, and acupuncture also inform her problem solving strategies.

As a collegiate Hall of Fame long distance runner, Gabrielle is no stranger to injuries and the special needs of the injured athlete, whether you are a weekend warrior or an elite performer. Likewise, she is well aware of the hazards of everyday living, and can help non-exercising individuals find a way to improve their health and well-being.
