Getting Started
Washington Health & Healing incorporates the techniques of traditional physical therapy with the teachings of the Alexander Technique to restore and maintain each person's health - in an individualized way.
Let's start with the basics
So what is a physical therapist, really? Think of a physical therapist (PT) as someone who enables a better quality of life. Physical therapists enable people to return to and continue their daily activities at home, at work, in fitness and in recreation. They do this by establishing preventive programs and recovery programs that address particular injuries or illnesses.
And physical therapists are licensed health professionals who have undergone many years of schooling to know and understand the vast complexity of the body and how to strengthen it. According to the American Physical Therapy Association, 48.8% of physical therapist have earned masters level degrees in the field, while 46.1% of physical therapists have earned bachelors or associates degrees.1 The physical therapist you see at Washington Health and Healing will have earned a masters level degree.

The experience at Washington Health & Healing
When you arrive at our downtown DC office, you are welcomed into an environment that is dedicated to helping you live the life you love by:
- Evaluating your strength, flexibility, and movement patterns to determine the source of your pain and problem.
- Developing a comprehensive plan to decrease pain and restore function of the injured joint or body region.
- Providing ongoing re-evaluation to determine progress and treatment effectiveness
- Supporting you throughout the rehabilitation process.
- Guiding you back into your full activity level to ensure success without re-injury.
- Educating you about how to keep yourself and your body as healthy as possible.
Getting off to the right start is so important in many aspects of life. Physical therapy is no exception. During your first visit to Washington Health & Healing, we will discuss your medical history together. A thorough assessment will help determine the source of your pain. From there, we'll come up with an individualized plan to get you back to doing the things you love.
And while change can take time, it's worth it. Our focus on rebuilding your best self through physical therapy and Alexander Technique has helped hundreds of people get back to doing what they love, sometimes even preventing the need for surgery.
